5/4/2010 - HONEYWELL UNVEILS REVOLUTIONARY AREA-IMAGING SCANNERS
Xenon Series Combines Two Leading-Class Technologies in One Device
Fort Mill, S.C. – May 4, 2010 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced the introduction of the Xenon™ series, the company’s sixth generation of hand-held area imaging scanners. Xenon is the first Honeywell scanner to combine two proven technologies, Adaptus® Imaging Technology and Omniplanar’s SwiftDecoder® decoding software, to create an industry-leading platform that extends depth of field, shortens read time and improves scanning performance, including faster throughput and processing, on almost all types of bar codes. Designed to meet the needs of workers in healthcare, retail, manufacturing, postal/courier and government, Xenon is available in two easy-to-use models: the corded 1900 and Bluetooth-enabled 1902.
Xenon utilizes Adaptus Imaging Technology 6.0 to read high density linear bar codes, 2D bar codes and those found on alternative surfaces, such as the screen of a mobile device. Adaptus also provides enhanced image capture capabilities, including auto-cropping, resolution enhancement and sharpening filters that increase flexibility and ease integration into existing applications. Combined with SwiftDecoder software, which improves the scanner’s ability to decode damaged and hard-to-read bar codes, Xenon delivers unmatched scanning performance.
“The Xenon series is not only a major advancement in our scanning portfolio, but also the industry, as it brings the best of two worlds together to form a scanning platform with next-generation capabilities,” said Darius Adamczyk, president, Honeywell Scanning & Mobility. “In our internal testing, Xenon outperformed the other scanners tested in a wide variety of use case scenarios. We look forward to offering our customers this series of feature-rich scanners that will reshape the AIDC industry.”
Another differentiator for Xenon is its custom sensor, optimized specifically for bar code reading to deliver improved scanning aggressiveness. Additionally, as the sensor is manufactured only for Honeywell scanning products, it helps avoid supply chain issues experienced with off-the-shelf camera sensors used by other area-imaging scanners. Unlike most competitors within the AIDC space, Xenon’s internal infrastructure mounts critical components on a single board, reducing the need for connectors. This improves serviceability and reliability, while minimizing downtime and increasing productivity.
“Our customers demand quick, efficient and seamless transactions,” said Brad Fick, president, Direct Source, Inc. “To meet this need, we collaborate with partners like Honeywell to provide advanced scanning solutions. It serves our customers well that Honeywell is a proven leader in the imaging space.”
Xenon also comes equipped with Honeywell’s TotalFreedom® development platform, which expands Xenon’s functionality by allowing image processing, decoding and formatting application plug-ins to be loaded directly to the scanner instead of the host system. Additionally, the device is compatible with Honeywell’s Remote MasterMind® (ReM) scanner management software, which provides a quick and convenient solution for IT administrators seeking to manage all scanners within their network from a single remote location, enabling users to perform tasks ranging from asset tracking to software upgrades.
EZConfig, Honeywell’s new scanner configuration software, is launching along with Xenon. With an easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI), EZConfig saves time and increases productivity by simplifying scanner configuration.
Xenon’s space-saving design fits well in any sized hand, increasing comfort and reducing operator fatigue. The scanner’s rugged form factor is capable of withstanding up to 50 drops to concrete from distances as high as six feet. Xenon also offers optional disinfectant-ready housing to minimize degradation in environments where scanners must be cleaned frequently with harsh chemicals, such as healthcare facilities.
Corded Xenon scanners are now available, while Bluetooth® Xenon scanners will begin shipping in June. For more information on Xenon, please visit www.honeywellaidc.com/xenon_press_release.

Bluetooth is the trademark or registered trademark of Bluetooth SIG in the United States and/or other countries.

1/25/2010 - HONEYWELL INTRODUCES ENHANCEMENTS TO ITS STRATOS® 2400 PRODUCT LINE
Advancements Boost Productivity at the Point-of-Sale; Two New Models Increase Flexibility
Fort Mill, S.C. – January 25, 2009 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced scan performance enhancements available on all Stratos 2400 five-sided, 360°-bioptic scanners. These enhancements enable cashiers to increase speed and precision when scanning GS1 DataBar™ and high density bar codes, both of which are becoming increasingly prevalent in today’s retail environment. Enhanced Stratos 2400 scanners allow cashiers to scan nearly all bar codes on the first pass and eliminate the need to hand-type hard-to-read bar codes or spend time searching for the bar code “sweet spot”—saving up to 14 seconds per product scanned. The new enhancements also help retailers prepare for the GS1 DataBar sunrise initiative.
Another enhancement to the Stratos 2400 series is the addition of a solution to address weigh-shrink. A single or three-sided flip-up weigh bar can be added to Stratos 2400 scanners, enabling cashiers to capture the full weight of oversized produce along the length or width of the platter, ensuring accuracy in produce pricing.
“Speed and accuracy are of utmost concern in today’s retail environment, and revenue lost due to the inaccurate weighing of produce is a top concern for retailers,” said Taylor Smith, director of product management—scanning, Honeywell Scanning & Mobility. “Honeywell’s new scanning enhancements drive a quicker, more accurate checkout process which results in increased store profitability and customer satisfaction—two of the most fundamental goals for all retailers.”
All new Stratos 2400 scanners are capable of supporting Honeywell’s hand-held area-imaging scanners, which are becoming more prevalent as a secondary scanner at the point-of-sale, as well as Honeywell’s linear scanners. A secondary scanner eliminates the need for cashiers to lift large or bulky items, while an area-imaging scanner provides the added benefit of allowing cashiers to scan damaged 1D bar codes that can not be read with a bioptic scanner, as well as 2D bar codes used in emerging applications, such as age verification and mobile couponing.
The introduction of two new Stratos 2400 models—a 20” (508 mm) scanner-only model and a 20” (508 mm) scanner/scale model—expands the breadth of the product line. With these new models, retailers can now deploy the Stratos 2400 series across multiple store formats with different scanner footprints, including 13.9” (353 mm) and 15.7” (399 mm). Deploying a single scanner platform reduces training costs for support staff, as well as service costs associated with maintaining spare parts pools. Combined, these cost reductions lower the total cost of ownership.
“The new 20” Stratos 2400 scanners provide retailers with the ability to select the model that best fits each store’s needs,” said Smith. “With this option, retailers are able to implement a unified system that cuts operating costs and allows them to focus on their core business functions.”
Honeywell’s Stratos 2400 will be on display at booth #1803 at the 99th Annual NRF Conference & EXPO from January 11–12, 2010 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City, New York. The new extended length models will begin shipping immediately. For more information on the Stratos 2400 product line, please visit http://www.honeywellaidc.com/.

1/13/2010 - UPS AND HONEYWELL SET STAGE FOR NEXT HIGH-TECH HANDHELD FOR DRIVERS
Global Deployment of 5th Version Starts in 2011; Offers Continuous Connectivity & Industry-First Features FORT MILL, S.C., and ATLANTA, January 13, 2010 – UPS (NYSE:UPS) and Honeywell (NYSE:HON) today announced they are teaming on a new-generation handheld computer for UPS drivers that will further improve communications links while adding a number of other industry-leading features. UPS will deploy more than 100,000 Honeywell mobile computers worldwide. Known internally at UPS as the DIAD V (Delivery Information Acquisition Device V), the Honeywell mobile computer features innovative cellular technology that provides on-the-fly switching between cellular carriers, meaning the computer can automatically jump to another cellular carrier if the preferred carrier’s signal is lost. This industry-leading technology, when combined with Honeywell’s sophisticated 2D imaging capabilities, will further ensure the package tracking and reliability that customers expect from the world’s largest delivery company. At approximately half the size and weight of the DIAD IV, the new, more durable mobile computer will feature: • A state-of-the-art color display and microprocessor with substantially expanded memory – all to support driver training and future applications like navigation. For example, the DIAD V will enable maps to be displayed to help a driver avoid a traffic jam. • A color, auto-focus, flash camera to enhance proof-of-delivery and help resolve customer claims more quickly. • Faster Wi-Fi support (600 mbps) to enable larger and richer content downloads such as training videos to 90,000 drivers simultaneously. • An aggressive 2D imager that can decode many symbologies, including existing UPS linear barcodes and the UPS Maxicode, and thus speed the upload of additional package information at the time a package is first picked up. The 2D imager also will make it even easier to “capture” a clear view of a recipient’s signature. UPS will begin field testing the device in late 2010 with plans to begin a multi-year, global deployment in 2011. The DIAD V will be approved for operation in more than 100 countries. “Starting in 1991, UPS was the first in its industry to equip drivers with a handheld computer,” said David Barnes, UPS’s chief information officer. “Over the past two decades, the DIAD has become a critical component of an integrated global network that’s now tracking more than 15 million deliveries every day.” “Through each successive generation of the DIAD, UPS has leveraged technology to deliver superior service by accelerating the availability of customer tracking data, and by improving our ability to communicate about customer needs with UPS drivers,” Barnes continued. “I am confident the deployment of Honeywell’s computer as DIAD V will continue that successful trend.” “Honeywell is committed to providing technologies that our customers demand. By introducing the industry’s first wireless mobile computer that remains continuously connected to cellular service, regardless of the local carriers available, we are delivering on this commitment once again,” said Darius Adamczyk, president of Honeywell Scanning & Mobility. “UPS’ technical leadership and real-world application of advanced technologies is well recognized throughout the industry and Honeywell is excited to provide the platform for DIAD V,” Adamczyk added. “We view UPS’ selection as a tribute to our investment in mobility and the development of revolutionary wireless technologies.” Honeywell International (www.honeywell.com) is a Fortune 100 diversified technology and manufacturing leader, serving customers worldwide with aerospace products and services; control technologies for buildings, homes and industry; automotive products; turbochargers; and specialty materials. 12/2/2009 - HONEYWELL AND SYDION ANNOUNCE SOLUTION FOR MOBILE H1N1 VACCINE ADMINISTRATION
HONEYWELL AND SYDION ANNOUNCE SOLUTION FOR MOBILE H1N1 VACCINE ADMINISTRATION
Honeywell’s Dolphin® 9900 and Sydion’s emergency management technology provide efficient H1N1 vaccination
Fort Mill, S.C. – December 1, 2009 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced that Sydion, LLC, a mobile crisis management technology company, is offering its’ patient-tracking software on Honeywell’s mobility platform to assist in the administration of the H1N1 vaccine. The system that Sydion is offering bundles Honeywell’s Dolphin® 9900 mobile computers into Sydion’s eMET®, an emergency patient tracking system, to deliver a complete offering that enables healthcare providers to effectively prepare for and manage mass H1N1 vaccine administration at locations such as hospitals, vaccination clinics or schools.
Recently made available to the public, the H1N1 vaccine is in extremely high demand due to several outbreaks of the H1N1 flu, commonly known as the “swine flu.” The mobile tracking system offered by Sydion enables healthcare facilities and public health agencies to address the public need by offering a system to track, monitor and administer available vaccines either remotely or on-site.
With eMET®, patients are provided with a bar-coded wrist band or other form of identification that includes vital information which is used to create an electronic medical record. The patient ID is entered into the eMET® central database, creating a way for medical personnel to track and prioritize all patients, based on individual needs. The system automatically transmits all patient data scanned or entered into the mobile computer to the patient’s record in the eMET® database, ensuring that physicians have up-to-date information and can follow up with the patient as needed.
“With increased anticipation around H1N1 vaccination and ongoing outbreaks, it was imperative to find a solution that will allow us to safely and efficiently serve our patients,” said Linda McAndrew, RN and Administrative Director, Trauma Program and Emergency Preparedness, Scranton Community Medical Center. “Given our previous success using eMET®, we are confident that this technology will allow our personnel to effectively administer the H1N1 vaccine, while continuing our focus on providing top quality patient care.”
“eMET® is designed with easy-to-learn technology so all medical staff can quickly adapt to the system, which is extremely vital in emergency situations,” said Nina Johnson, Managing Director, Sydion, LLC. “We chose Honeywell’s mobile computers because of their simplicity and durability, allowing medical administrators to stay connected in any type of environment and under most conditions.”
The wireless technology and rugged design of Honeywell’s Dolphin mobile computers gives the units flexibility for use in environments such as schools, offices, and indoor or outdoor locations. With this mobility, healthy patients no longer need to sit in a waiting area with sick patients, as healthcare personnel are able to travel outside of their offices to administer the vaccine. This eliminates exposing healthy patients to the illness, and enables providers to effectively immunize patients while largely reducing transmission of the virus.
For environments that may require a higher level of infection control, eMET® is available with Honeywell’s Dolphin 9900hc mobile computer. The Dolphin 9900hc is equipped with disinfectant-ready housing and is built to withstand frequent cleaning with harsh chemicals. This product allows for maximum cleanliness in any environment, helping to minimize the spread of germs from patient to patient.
“With such a prominent healthcare concern rising around the world, Honeywell is pleased that Sydion selected its Dolphin 9900 mobile computer to be a part of their eMET® offering that allows healthcare facilities to manage the process of H1N1 vaccinations,” said John Waldron, Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, Honeywell Scanning & Mobility. “Through its relationship with Sydion, Honeywell is delivering on its commitment to provide devices that are being used to address the healthcare concerns of today by helping to ensure medical accuracy and increase patient safety.”

9/29/2009 - HONEYWELL INTRODUCES BUILT-IN GPS FOR DOLPHIN®7600
Popular 7600 model enhanced with location-based capability Skaneateles Falls, N.Y. – September 29, 2009 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced the release of the Dolphin 7600 mobile computer with built-in GPS-tracking hardware. The Dolphin 7600 with GPS is a feature-rich mobile computer with location-based capabilities for enhanced asset tracking and management. Businesses now have a path to easily incorporate location-based services and functions into their standard operations, and users gain the convenience of a streamlined all-in-one solution for both data collection and popular GPS functions. Unlike other GPS-enabled devices, the flashlight-form factor of the Dolphin 7600 incorporates the extra functionality of GPS while maintaining the standard, easy-to-hold ergonomic design of the regular 7600 unit. The GPS data collected by the Dolphin 7600 can be used for business intelligence systems and strategies, such as route optimization and delivery verification. “We’re offering GPS technology on the 7600 specifically to address the needs of the transportation and logistics industries, where tracking field assets and optimizing fleet routes is paramount for increased business efficiency,” said Garrison Gomez, Manager of Mobility Marketing for Honeywell Scanning & Mobility. “Incorporating location-based capability into the industry-proven Dolphin 7600 is another example of how Honeywell listens and responds to our customers.” The Dolphin 7600 with GPS is an extension of the standard 7600, and comes with all of the same proven features as the original model. The ergonomic one-handed design of the unit was built to be held comfortably over extended shifts. Shift-PLUS™ power management technology provides more than 10 hours of battery life, eliminating the need to replace the battery during a single work shift. Adaptus® Imaging Technology allows the Dolphin 7600 with GPS to capture images and read 1D and 2D bar codes, as well as OCR fonts. The GPS unit connection is handled through the onboard Windows Mobile® 6 operating system, meaning no extra installation, configuration, or customizing of proprietary drivers, applications, or services is required. “Having GPS capabilities in the form-factor of the Dolphin 7600 is unique as it is one unit that does the work of multiple devices,” said Tony Rainbow of Unique ID, a U.K.-based reseller. “This is the perfect solution for any business looking to reap the benefits of GPS, mobile computing, and scanning technology while reducing the amount of equipment they need to carry and to purchase.” For more information on Honeywell Scanning & Mobility, visit http://www.honeywellaidc.com. 7/30/2009 - HONEYWELL DELIVERS A MAJOR ORDER TO CHINA'S MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE
Model 5100 Imager Engine is used in Animal Identification and Traceability System
BLACKWOOD, N.J. – July 30, 2009 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced the successful delivery of a second round of model 5100 miniature image scan engines to China’s Ministry of Agriculture for the country’s Animal Identification and Traceability System. As a measure to assure food safety and safeguard against animal disease propagation, China’s Ministry of Agriculture began implementation of the Animal Identification and Traceability System in 2007. With this system, government officials can track the origin of animal food products whenever an epidemic situation arises. Typically seen as an “ear tag” applied on animals, the system uses a 2D bar code to provide information regarding an animal’s breeding, as well as the processing, storage and sale of any resulting food products. The Honeywell 5100 has been selected as the only imaging engine to be integrated into a third-party device to read the 2D bar codes found on animal ear tags. Honeywell’s 5100 is a high-performance scan engine that builds on the company’s long history of excellence in imaging technology. Combining the latest CMOS industrial-grade sensor, illumination and optics, this compact and lightweight scan module can read all 2D bar codes omnidirectionally, including scratched, smeared or damaged bar codes that would present a challenge for other engines. “We are very glad to work with Honeywell on this important project,” commented Mr. Baiwan Xu, Associate Director of China’s Animal Disease Control and Prevention Center. “The Animal Identification and Traceability System is one of the most critical projects that the Central Government has ever implemented. We were looking for an engine that could work efficiently and reliably and be easily integrated into a mobile computer. The 5100 has been proven to be the perfect choice for our system and we are very satisfied with the product and the service that we have received from Honeywell.” “We are delighted to supply model 5100 image engines for this project,” said Jay Lu, OEM Sales Director for Honeywell Scanning & Mobility. “China is one of the few countries worldwide that has implemented an animal identification and traceability system, with successful implementation in more than ten provinces so far. This strategic win demonstrates the excellence and quality on which the Honeywell 5100 stands.” For more information on Honeywell Scanning & Mobility, visit http://www.honeywellaidc.com.

These two enhancements provide users with advanced technology to accommodate their mobile computing requirements. Microsoft’s award-winning mobile operating system, Windows Mobile 6.1, is now available for all Dolphin 9900 models. Featuring a broad number of improvements for developers and customers, Windows Mobile 6.1 offers increased performance, advanced features and improved network security functions. “We are committed to providing our customers with the latest and most sophisticated system available,” said Garrison Gomez, Manager of Mobility Marketing for Honeywell Scanning & Mobility. “We’re offering a free upgrade for all qualified customers, allowing them to immediately realize the benefits of Windows Mobile 6.1.” “Windows Mobile 6.1 is a flexible platform for building and easily deploying mobile applications,” said Grace Ho, director of product management for the Mobile Communications Business, Microsoft Corp. “Customers using Honeywell’s Windows Mobile devices can take advantage of enhanced productivity in the field and connectivity to their most important information when they need it.” The second enhancement to the Dolphin product line is the release of the Dolphin 9951 mobile computer. The new device incorporates all of the proven features of the Dolphin 9950, with the addition of three long-range laser options—High Performance, Long Range and Advanced Long Range—to provide scanning functions from five up to 30 feet. Designed for scan-intensive application environments in retail or warehousing, the 9951 is ideal for situations where palettes or other coded inventory are located far away. “Customers can easily scan hard-to-reach bar codes at the top of a warehouse shelf or across the dock, rather than finding and using a forklift or ladder to get into range” says Gomez. “The ability to scan distant bar codes from the ground saves time and increases safety.” The rugged design of the 9951 includes the following features: • an ergonomic pistol grip to facilitate comfortable single-handed data collection that is easy to hold over extended shifts; • Shift-PLUS™ power management technology that ensures uninterrupted battery performance for 10 or more hours, eliminating the need to replace batteries during most work shifts; • three keypad configurations designed to match a variety of end user scenarios, including: o a 35-key numeric keypad with shifted alphabetical functions for basic retail use; o a 43-key alphabetical keypad with shifted numeric functions; o a 56-key full alphanumeric keypad for warehouse and distribution environments. 4/3/2009 - HONEYWELL RELEASES FIRST MOBILE COMPUTER WITH DISINFECTANT-READY HOUSING
New materials make the Dolphin® 9900hc resilient to liquids and solvents common in healthcare environments
Skaneateles Falls, N.Y. – April 3, 2009 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced the availability of the Dolphin 9900hc mobile computer with new disinfectant-ready housing, a first among leading rugged mobile solutions. The Dolphin 9900hc is specifically designed to mobilize patient safety in environments where continuous cleaning of the device is required. Facilities can reduce the risk of spreading pathogens by selecting a mobile computing solution for point-of-care applications that can be quickly and easily disinfected.
Solvents such as hand sanitizer, isopropyl alcohol, and ammonia- and bleach-based products that are used to kill pathogens also weaken normal plastics over time, creating cracks in the housing that can lead to scanning errors or equipment failure. Dolphin 9900hc increases return on investment by incorporating disinfectant-ready housing that resists the harmful effects of repeated exposure to harsh cleaning solvents.
“Traditional mobile solutions can experience cracked or broken cases that lead to down time in patient safety systems that are designed to reduce medical errors. Down time can be dangerous and costly to everyone in a healthcare environment, where cleanliness and safety are vital,” said Garrison Gomez, Manager of Mobility Marketing for Honeywell Scanning & Mobility. “The specially-designed Dolphin 9900hc ensures that the mobile computer will retain its case integrity for years, even after multiple cleanings around a non-stop 24-hour work cycle. With the Dolphin 9900hc’s disinfectant-ready housing, healthcare professionals can carry out the Five Rights of Patient Safety—the right patient, the right drug, the right dose, the right route and the right time—without concern of spreading pathogens or viruses.”
The Dolphin 9900hc retains all of the features and functions of the standard Dolphin 9900, including Adaptus® Imaging Technology. The computing architecture is powered by Microsoft Windows® Mobile 6 on an Intel® PXA 270 624 MHz processor with 256MB RAM x 1GB FLASH memory to ensure fast performance in data-intensive applications. An integrated 802.11b/g radio delivers wireless communication that supports advanced wireless security standards. The Dolphin 9900hc is Cisco CCX v4 certified and offers multi-mode wireless connectivity. The unit delivers full Shift-PLUS™ battery performance of over 10 hours, increasing end user productivity by eliminating the need to replace the battery during most extended work shifts.
“With millions of transactions for medications, equipment, and records management taking place at healthcare facilities each year, any reduction in risk can result in significant cost savings,” added Gomez. “Honeywell’s Dolphin 9900hc helps manage those risks and increases the effectiveness, speed, and quality of patient care.”

2/17/2009 - HONEYWELL TEAMS WITH GAVITEC ON AREA-IMAGING SOLUTION FOR MOBILE TICKETING
Leading-edge design reads 2D bar codes on mobile phone and PDA displays
Skaneateles Falls, N.Y. – February 17, 2009 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) and Gavitec AG - mobile digit, a leading provider of mobile ticketing technologies, today announced the availability of XELIA, an area-imaging solution that scans bar codes directly from mobile phone and PDA displays.
The alliance combines Honeywell’s Adaptus® Imaging Technology platform with Gavitec’s specialized software and purpose-designed hardware solutions to provide a product that delivers optimal reading performance of bar codes on digital displays. This technology serves a rapidly emerging market worldwide, as consumers purchase tickets or request product information and coupons online. Bar-coded data is then sent directly to their mobile phones or PDAs via SMS.
The process, known as mobile ticketing or m-ticketing, marks an important step in the digital evolution, as paper tickets and coupons are replaced with an electronic message sent directly to a mobile device. Consumer convenience and satisfaction increases as misplaced or stolen tickets become a thing of the past. By delivering improved efficiency and cost reduction, m-tickets and m-coupons are an attractive option for concerts, sporting events and entertainment complexes in addition to trains and other forms of public transportation. “Mobile technology and communications has become part of our everyday lifestyle, therefore m-ticketing is a natural evolution in this trend,” says Dr. Christian Steinborn, CEO, Gavitec AG - mobile digit. “The key to an effective m-ticketing or m-couponing program is deploying the right technology infrastructure. Honeywell’s Adaptus Imaging Technology platform is the ideal data collection technology to power our solution because of its aggressive read rates and ability to accurately decode poor quality bar codes. These features are critical in environments with lots of unknown variables that can affect how a bar code is displayed — the exact same conditions where mobile bar codes operate. Combined with our hardware and software design, we feel confident that Gavitec delivers a best-in-class solution.”
Gavitec will produce and distribute XELIA, a bar code reader that incorporates Adaptus Imaging Technology to enable high-performance reading of 2D bar codes, including Data Matrix and Aztec codes, from electronic displays. As mobile ticketing gains momentum, 2D bar codes are the preferred type due to their small size and improved readability over basic linear bar codes.
“We are excited to work with Gavitec on an innovative solution like XELIA,” says David Gantt, Global OEM Sales Leader, Honeywell Scanning & Mobility. “As the uses of bar code technology become more diversified and companies use bar codes in more creative ways, 2D bar codes and area-imaging technology are becoming the solution of choice for many applications – m-ticketing is a true example of this phenomenon.”

1/12/2009 - HONEYWELL’S MS4980 VUQUEST™ FITS ANYWHERE AND SCANS ANY BAR CODE
Versatile area-imaging scanner delivers aggressive performance in a compact form
Blackwood, NJ – January 12, 2009 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced the availability of the MS4980 VuQuest, a compact yet powerful area-imaging scanner. The combination of aggressive presentation-mode scanning and advanced features allow for high-quality scanning in places where space is at a premium. It’s ideal for applications requiring maximum versatility and strong performance.
Like Honeywell’s popular MS7580 Genesis™, the MS4980 is capable of scanning virtually all 1D, PDF and 2D bar codes. The MS4980 features a 1.2 megapixel camera that can be used to capture high-resolution images of important items including signatures, identification cards, damaged goods and personal checks. End users have the option of incorporating optical character recognition (OCR), eliminating the need for additional specialty hardware. A wide field of view allows the MS4980 to read wide bar codes and OCR fonts. These features make the scanner ideal for a broad range of applications—from retail point-of-sale to self-service kiosks to mobile ticketing systems where bar codes are read directly from the screen of a mobile device
“We’ve received feedback from customers requesting a compact scanner that can handle challenging imaging tasks,” said Taylor Smith, Senior Manager for Scanner Products Marketing, Honeywell Scanning & Mobility. Smith continued, “The MS4980 was designed specifically to address this need.”
Beyond small size and large performance, Honeywell’s TotalFreedom® development platform expands scanner functionality by allowing image processing, decoding and formatting plug-ins to be loaded directly to the MS4980 instead of the host system. TotalFreedom provides end users and third-party integrators with the tools necessary for developing plug-ins that meet the specific needs of any application. An intelligent multi-interface design delivers automatic cable detection and configuration, reducing overall system costs.
Because not all applications require the full range of scanning capabilities, the MS4980 is offered with Honeywell’s flexible licensing solution (FLS). FLS lets customers purchase the MS4980 with limited decoding capabilities. Decoding licenses can be purchased in the future, enabling additional symbologies to be read. “Honeywell’s flexible licensing solution future-proofs the MS4980,” said Smith. “Our flexible licensing solution allows customers to benefit from the functionality of the scanner today, while retaining the ability to increase functionality as their scanning needs evolve. FLS extends the value and the lifecycle of the MS4980, reducing the unit’s total cost of ownership.”
Honeywell’s MS4980 will be unveiled in booth #2231 at the 98th Annual NRF Conference & EXPO. NRF will take place from January 11–14, 2009 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City, New York.

1/9/2009 - HONEYWELL CUTS RETAIL SCANNING TIME WITH MS7580 GENESIS
Area-imaging scanner integrates EAS technology to accelerate checkout transactions
Blackwood, N.J. – January 9, 2009 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced the availability of an enhanced MS7580 Genesis™ for retail applications. Retailers now have the option of purchasing MS7580 Genesis kits that support EAS deactivation. This enhancement merges the traditional two-step retail checkout experience into a speedy single-swipe solution.
The MS7580 Genesis works with the two most common architectures for EAS deactivation. Compatibility with Sensormatic EAS systems can be achieved by connecting the MS7580 Genesis to an acousto-magnetic (AM) deactivation controller and antenna. Retailers looking to connect to Checkpoint radio frequency (RF) EAS systems simply need to purchase the corresponding kit which includes an RF antenna built directly into the base of the scanner, along with the required communication cable. Interlock functionality provides added security by allowing the interaction between the scanner and the EAS deactivation controller to be programmed and timed.
“We know many of our retail customers have both scanning units and EAS deactivators at the point-of-sale,” said Taylor Smith, Senior Manager of Scanning Products Marketing for Honeywell Scanning & Mobility. “By bringing both of these functions together into one complete and simple unit, the two-step process is condensed to one. This allows employees to checkout customers faster, creating a positive customer experience.”
The MS7580 Genesis has in its small form factor the technology to handle practically any scanning scenario. The unit can scan and interpret 1D and 2D bar codes, as well as a variety of OCR fonts. The MS7580 Genesis can even capture digital images. Advanced motion tolerance means that even fast swipes of bar codes can be scanned, captured and processed. Deploying the MS7580 Genesis is easy and flexible with Honeywell’s TotalFreedom® architecture, which puts processing plug-ins onto the scanner itself for simplified configuration and faster transactions.
“Honeywell's Flexible Licensing Solution (FLS) allows customers to meet their specific scanning requirements by purchasing the MS7580 Genesis with limited decoding capabilities,” says Smith. “As customers’ scanning needs evolve, licenses can be purchased to enable additional decoding functionality, eliminating the need for new imaging equipment.”
The MS7580 Genesis will be on display in booth #2231 at the 98th Annual NRF Conference & EXPO. NRF will take place from January 11–14, 2009 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City, New York.

11/7/2008 - HONEYWELL FILES LAWSUIT AGAINST DATALOGIC
Complaint Filed to Protect Intellectual Property
MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ, Nov. 5, 2008 – Honeywell Scanning & Mobility, through its subsidiary Omniplanar, Inc., filed a lawsuit against Datalogic S.p.A and Datalogic Scanning, Inc. on October 22, 2008 in United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. Honeywell’s claims against Datalogic relate to its Omniplanar’s SwiftDecoder Software and include copyright infringement; violation of Digital Millennium Copyright Act; breach of contract; misappropriation of trade secrets; and violation of N.J.S.A. 2A:38A-3 . The complaint alleges that these violations may include all of Datalogic’s 2D imaging products including Gryphon, Power Scan, Lynx, Magellan, Kyman, JET and Matrix. Honeywell is seeking monetary damages, injunctive relief, and impoundment of the violative software.
“The Omniplanar SwiftDecoder software is the result of significant investment in research and development, and Honeywell intends to protect its intellectual property,” said Darius Adamczyk, CEO of Honeywell Scanning & Mobility. “Honeywell remains steadfast in its commitment to innovation, and we have no choice but to protect our technology and customers through legal action.”

9/29/2008 - HONEYWELL INTRODUCES A WIRELESS SCANNING WORKHORSE FOR DEMANDING INDUSTRIAL ENVIRONMENTS
Dirt, Moisture and Noise Are No Match for Powerful Hand-Held Scanner with Tough and Rugged Chassis
Skaneateles Falls, NY – Sept. 25, 2008 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced its newest addition to the 3800 linear bar code scanner family to meet the needs of customers who require maximum durability from their bar code scanning solution. Designed for use in manufacturing, backroom retail, warehouse and distribution or other extreme industrial environments, the new 3820i Industrial Cordless Linear Imager is ready to use indoors or outdoors in a range of temperatures and operating conditions where less rugged barcode scanners won’t survive.
Based on the benefits of a proven product line, the 3820i builds on many of the reliable design and technology benefits of the 3800 — no moving parts, integrated Adaptus® Imaging Technology 5.0 and an optimized blend of ergonomics and durability.
Founded on performance and endurance, the 3820i is backed by a three-year warranty and has been tested to withstand fifty drops onto hard concrete from six-and-a-half feet (two meters), simulating standard industrial conditions. Independently IP54 certified, the 3820i is water and dust resistant, making it the ideal solution for any environment where dirt and moisture render other scanners unusable. The device withstands temperatures ranging from below freezing to extreme heat while still providing enough power to read bar codes that are dirty or damaged from intense environments. An adjustable good-read beep and highly-visible dual LEDs let workers know they’ve captured successful scans even where noisy conditions prevail.
“To achieve the highest ROI possible, industrial enterprises require scanning solutions that are built specifically to fit their work environments,” said Melissa Fiutak, Manager of Product Marketing for Hand-Held Imagers, Honeywell Scanning & Mobility. “We’ve combined class-leading ergonomics and durability with innovative battery management and high-performance bar code scanning to deliver a solution that’s optimized for improving productivity in the harshest applications.”
The 3820i can operate for long periods of time while still being ergonomic and easy to use. The battery works for 50,000 scans or over 16 hours, enough to work over two shifts before requiring a charge. For customers requiring even longer periods of service in situations where downtime is not an option, batteries can be easily swapped without any tools.
Wireless communication is handled via Bluetooth v2.0, allowing a maximum range of 33 feet (10 meters) between the scanner and the base, and eliminating potentially dangerous cables from fast-paced work areas. Up to seven different 3820i units can connect to a single base, adding value and simplicity to installations that require multiple scanners. To prevent loss of information and wasted time, the scanner can keep up to 500 bar codes in memory for times when the unit is unable to transmit to the base. Once a connection is re-established, the 3820i will transmit the stored data. As an option, the 3820i is available with FIPS 140-2 encryption, meeting U.S. Government requirements for secure wireless data transmission and adding an enhanced level of security for any situation that handles sensitive information.
